(correction of the skin on the face and neck) – the purpose of this procedure is to reduce the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fatty deposits, stretching sagging muscles, fasciae (SMAS) and the skin of face and neck.
Most facelift procedures are performed under local anesthesia or in conjunction with intravenous administration of sedatives, analgesics and sleep-inducing drugs. The patient under local anesthesia may be slightly calmed whilst the face and the area surrounding it will be anesthetized. Although the patient remains conscious during entire operation he/she is relaxed and insensitive to pain.
A face lift usually lasts around a couple of hours, however quite often other, additional procedures may also be performed. Each surgeon uses his or her own methods during surgical operations.
Incisions usually start behind the hair line on the height of the temples, they run along the natural, pre-auricular line, behind the earlobe and then towards the occiput. Next, the surgeon separates the skin from the adipose tissue and muscles. Excessive adipose may be removed from the chin and neck in order to improve the features. The surgeon stretches the muscles and fascias under the skin and afterwards - the skin.
Very often drains are placed for a short period of time in order to collect and remove the accumulating blood. The surgeon puts on a dressing in order to reduce bruising and swelling.
