Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) allows for effective improvement of the looks of the abdominal folds which show the flabbiness of the skin, muscles and fasciae, are covered with stretch marks and post-operative scars. The improvement is made by removing the fold of fat and skin and by tightening the muscles of the frontal wall of the abdomen.
As a result the shape of the abdomen is significantly improved whilst the flabby skin is tightened.
Depending on its scope the procedure is performed under partial (waist-down), general or local anesthesia.
The procedure consists in making one of several types of incisions (depending on the surgeon's decision) above the pubic symphysis in such a way as to make the scar as inconspicuous as possible. Afterwards the fold of skin and fat is separated from the abdominal fascia all the way up to the ribs which allows to pull the skin down to the maximum and after adequate tightening - to remove the excess skin with possible stretch marks and previous post-operative scars.
Beforehand an incision around the navel is made in such a was as to leave the navel in its own place. At the end of the procedure the navel is sewn into a new place on the skin but it remains on its previous position.
After the operation drains are placed in for a few days in order to control the blood loss. An adequate pressure dressing is also used for separated skin to grow together with the muscles below it.
